This past semester providing on-line learning to my students , and instruction was interesting. As a special education resource teacher I was suppose to co-teach with the Gen Ed Language Arts teachers and pull-out my students for individual instruction based on their IEP. I found the experience difficult because some of my students didn't have the hardware to participate in online learning experiences. A major problem was students' inability to access online programs from their personal computers and telephones at home.
Now my District is going to begin school with remote learning. I think this is a good idea. But, I believe that during the first few days of the school year students need to come to school so we can show them how to access the online programs and proper ways to participate, and learn remotely.
Teaching modeling the behaviors students need to present as online learners with make remote teaching and learning a rewarding experience. Just making it mandatory for students to sign in to each class alone, will not ensure student learning if students don't know how to access and use the learning apps your school has available for online instruction.
What do you think is the best way to introduce students to remote learning?
